HAPPY FATHERS DAY - DAD

Not a day goes by without a happy thought of you
and a reminisce over all the things you used to do.

A birdhouse or table or something to fix,
that was your calling and that we will miss.

Along with your thoughts and your everlasting smile,
to make us all happy, you’d go that extra mile.

Your laughter was infectious, your humour so dry,
It’s these things I remember as I look up to the sky.

The silent thought or the nod of your head,
the raise of one eye, nothing needed to be said.

We had an understanding, words needed not to be uttered,
but there was a few times you coughed and sometimes even spluttered!

We laugh and we cry, and wish each day you were here,
to hold onto you tight and keep you so near.

I can see you so clearly in my heart and my mind,
I will never loose that image of your face: so kind.

I remember the work on the farm that we shared,
you made me laugh but I think you despaired!

I still look to you for answers above and beyond
I know that you are there, just across that big pond.

At the end of that rainbow, sat on a calm, distant, sunny shore
you keep us safe within your sights, until we knock upon that door.
