We took the dogs to the beach as usual, but we went to the other end with the river as it was so hot I needed to cool them down, after they had cooled they were still off their leads, the beach was busy but I thought they would just follow me down to the sea like usual. I didnt even give it a thought that they wouldn't, I mean what could go wrong... beach full of people laid down relaxing with their picnics and clean nice tidy towels that they had made sure no sand was on.... well it was like a sketch out of Mr Bean, the three dogs went in three directions, not taking a bit of notice of anyone, they walked and ran straight through and over people laid down to get to where they always go, they sent towels, food and people flying, I held my head and told pete "just do something" OMG what a disaster, After the seventh apology I just turned and walked to the sea I couldn't face another sole, it was like a road runner had scrambled them all up! Pete and I couldnt believe what had just happened, I think we laughed in despair the whole walk home, I still cant believe they did it and so badly. No wonder Shadow is tired! And Lucky taken to her bed for the afternoon!!
Challenge Complete!!, we sold most of our land and Farm House! ST CATHERINES CASTLE
Saw the castle from the water for the first time, lovely place has a special place in our hearts, we went on our first date here!...Yeap old romantic Pete!... told me to dress up and took me across the cliffs to the castle and then didnt know how to get down to it so we climbed down the cliff in my skirt!,,, then found we could have walked down some steps further on..... then tried to go for a meal but it was regatta week and everywhere was full so ended up back at the indian!!!I should have known then really what it was going to be like ha ha
GREENHOUSE SAGA
Who has ever bought a cheap small flat packed green house?? If you haven't then don't bother... ours is so diddy only 4 x6 for tomatoes, cucumber etc outside the mill.... and it came with instructions for a martian, pictures with no detail and a million fixings. We can build a house no problem we can build all sorts.... but a flat packed greenhouse...I really lost the will to live, it even drove Pete to wine!...Still not finished the gaskets to put the glass on are so fiddly it took Pete 2 hours for 4 bits.... I just lost the plot I don't know how he managed to keep going...so at present unsure when it will be finished and to be quite honest i am not too bothered either!!! Just glad I didn't have to wait for it to be put up to grow my strawberries or might have gone hungry!
OUR PRIVATE BEACH
We found a little hidden treasure whilst we were kayaking, a beach no one can get to but kayakers or something like that... Found some little cowries on there for Caroline who stays with us, it is really like a piece of heaven, love our kayaking we see so much, and right on the door step!! The other picture is when we went exploring one of the beaches we had found and the tide went out quickly and stranded our kayaks up the rocks!
HELPING'
Shadow came up to the top summerhouse garden whilst I was weeding and decided she would like to help, first by knocking over the wheel barrow full of weeds, then eating my sandwich finished off with the rest of my crisps...Yeap she is one big help, I didnt shout at all!!! I was surprised she didnt go in sit on the sofa in the summerhouse and watch the tv open a beer fromt he fridge with her feet up!!!!
CATS
Cats are everywhere in our house, here there is one on each arm and one on the footstool, looking at us as if to say, "you really have got to think again if you think the sofa is yours tonight!"
SIGHTS TO SEE
Here are a couple of pictures looking up from Ready Money cove to Fowey, past Dawn Frenchs' house opposite St.Catherines Castle. Lovely place to visit when you are down staying with us. Oh and the last one is a steam boat in Fowey estuary?!
OUR FLEDGLINGS
PILL CREEK
The waves were so large at the weekend we struggled to get the kayaks in the water and wondered if we did whether we would have to be rescued, they were huge, so we set off from ready money cove and kayaked up to Pill Creek, well thats what we call it, I think thats the right name!... Really pretty there we stopped and had our picnic with our leg dangling over the edge until the swans came to try to pinch our lunch and the crabs tried to pinch our toes..other than that very resultful!!! I think you can walk there too from Polruan if you dont want to kayak against the tide and current and be told its ok its just around the corner ha ha of course that wasnt the case with us!!!!
BABY MUSCOVEY
Freda the duck at Lakeside cafe had one chick this year after no luck for two years and she loves him to bits, we have called him Buzby. He was born under Helen and Daves cafe and Helen feeds them every day and tries to make sure he is given the best chance. I reckon if they give him a good Number one fry up he will be just fine...highly recommended!!
HOT HORSE!
Well Storm and Studley are hot and I have been hosing them down but Our driftwood horse from Keith and Myrna needed a helping hand too, came back one evening and it had a couple of hats on!!!
SUN HAS BEEN OUT!
Its been like Barbados here for a few weeks, great love it, cant sit in it as I get bored and hot, but love kayaking and climbing the cliffs or walking the dogs, so long as there is a breeze!...Not so keen on working in it as we have had to do unfortunately, I did try to persuade Pete to sack me but to no avail! Thought I had better take some pictures of the place before it goes brown and crispy and I loose my flowers! My tomatoes are looking a bit sorry for themselves but other than that not too bad.... Oh except some thieving little toe rag stole all my gooseberries every last one of them, the bush was laden with them, I went to pick them and not one on there, might have to get the CCTV on the go....I love gooseberry jam too!! They better hope I don't catch them!
SASSY
Sassy who was attacked last year by next doors dog and cost me £600 in vets bills to save her! has decided to live with Jean the next door neighbour but one, lovely lady but very close to the offending dog called Jess, its like spit the dog on some sort of mad drug. Not a nice little thing!... Well Sass loves Jean and we only see her when she needs flea treatment or worming or something, but this time she came to see us of her own accord. Came for some supper but quickly went back down to her one to one home!
MY HANDSOME HUSBAND!!!!!
Pete reckoned he walked into a tree and it did this to him!!! Such a child.....of course I am not! ha ha
GOLANT
There is a little pub at Golant that sits and looks over this, quite a nice place to sit when the tide is in and you have just rescued your car from the rising tide, we parked it on the road instead of the car park and it was a high tide, but nope didn't think about that!!..Still all ok no swimming necessary!
INTRUDER
Was woken up with a crash of glass early hours of the morning, we ran down to see what had happened, we thought someone had broken a pain of glass. Pete looked at the front of the house and was lead by Shadow to the perpetrator! It was a baby badger, some how had got on to a 5ft high shelf where we keep the bottle recycling and it was full, he either fell off or came down with the box of glass and was in shock on our back step. I tried to see if he was hurt but he wouldn't let me anywhere near and wiggled off across the bridge grumbling all the way!... We named him Bert!

GREAT!
After changeover in the heat on Saturday, and fixing the loo and a host of other things, I was worried we wouldnt get out, but after a walk for lunch at the lakeside cafe with the dogs at Snowlands trainline end, we got the kayaks out and pete went for a dip too, while I held the kayak, it was so clear, we saw huge starfish and a spider crab and a host of other fish, weird sea weed that looks like a forest, really incredible, would really recommend it! We are not any good at sitting in the sun or lying on a beach but out at sea its quite breezy and great to be out there as long as we can, Sunday was another great day, should have been working but hey, sun doesn't happen often!!
KISSES!
Shadow isnt afraid to show her affection to anyone sat still long enough, I managed to catch this kiss on camera, not sure Pete was really wanting that one!!!!
DUCKLINGS!
Ducklings are still hatching at the pond and the signets are doing well, they hate the dogs and hiss and spit at them but other than that lovely!!!!
HOT DAYS!
Shadow has welcomed Miguel our new addition to Purl Design a Part one graduate, She likes to flop at his feet in this hot weather, not sure if Miguel knows what he has let himself in for!
PAR TO POLKERRIS OPEN
Due to a land slide the footpath has been closed so we have been rock climbing around, except this day we took the diversion path, quite a view from up there, but not half as hairy or fun as rock climbing and swimming around! But the footpath is reopend now so you can walk to Polkerris to eat!
SQUIRREL!
Our squirrel loves it here, he has taken to sitting right on the top of our roof he climbs up the vertical wall! Not sure if you can see him properly here....
WASHED UP!
The sea was quite choppy and I surfed in on a large wave, feeling quite pleased with myself I turned around to tell Pete and an even bigger wave slam dunked me into the beach!!! Was there any need for that!!! on the plus side I did find a cowrie shell for Caroline when she comes in September as she collects them, so not all is lost, just the skin on my knees ha ha
AWKWARD?
Our cats are so awkward, they challenge each other for Lauras attention, so just to make it really difficult they sit on opposite arms of the sofa! Just to see who she chooses! But their plan foiled as Lauras arms have grown due to serving vast volumes of Ice cream in Fowey, until she goes back to uni in Sept for her post grad teaching one year course.
MUST MAKE ONE!!
Found this chair and I think I need one, so in the winter I will have to make sure I collect some large pieces of wood!!! That will please Pete, already found a bit, tried to float it on the kayak but it was too heavy and sunk it!!! not popular!
FLEDGLINGS
We have house martins or swifts nesting in the new tractor port, they seem to like it there, they fledged last week but still come back to the nest, seems like they have it cushy there, sounds familiar!!!!
SEEN SO MANY BEAUTIFUL PLACES!
We kayaked up to Lerryn from Golant one evening, we came back on the tide which was lucky as paddling against it is nearly impossible! It was like a mill pond that night and seemed like we were in a foreign country, we saw hundreds of fish jumping out of the water, just really idyllic! recommend that to anyone staying! You can see pete here kayaking back at sunset!
NEW KAYAKS
After working all weekend and seems to be constantly and wondering what on earth life was all about, how do other people manage to have a few moments of free time! had a bit of a "sod it" moment and bought two kayaks!!Weather is so good after 7 years we thought we would go back to kayaking, and really loving it, been most evenings since we had them.
