We had a Easter biscuit decorating competition of Easter lunch… heap you are right it was raining! But I reckon I won… others begged to differ!… we then went to Point to Point races in St Columb on Easter Monday. The dogs loved it, Shadow with her obsession with tannoys, she would sit and listen to them all day she loves the local football…and also she doesn't have to walk miles just sits and watches everyone…Gem made herself at home in the long grass on her back and Lucky just wanted to sit on us!… I think by the end of the day we were £1 up so not bad day out!

PURL DESIGN LLP OUR ARCHITECTURE BUSINESS IN PAPER AGAIN - GOOD NEWS!

Plans for multi-million pound community hub at St Blazey is taking shape

"THIS is about the community taking ownership from an early stage, it has got to be something that the community wants and then they are involved in making it happen."
This is the vision of Purl Design, the town's sustainable architectural firm behind the design for the multimillion-pound St Blazey AFC Community and Sports Hub on Station Road.
Two years ago Peter Hume – whose seven-year-old company is based in the town where he lives with his children and his wife and Purl Design senior partner Michelle – was approached by project leaders behind the scheme as they started to explore the option of providing residents with more sports facilities.
Mr Hume said: "We thought it sounded like a good idea but felt that what St Blazey really needs is a community sports centre that can provide what the football club wants but also what everyone else wants as well."
With his imagination sparked by the 100-year-old chronophotograph entitled The Human Body In Action, by the French scientist Etienne-Jules Marey, Mr and Mrs Hume set about designing a building of the future.
Although Sports England – who can fund part of the project – have detailed its specifications for what the building should look like inside, the couple have spent the past few years ensuring St Blazey AFC Community and Sports Hub will be "future-proof".
Mr Hume said: "We have spoken to businesses, landowners, Imerys, Cornwall Council and they are all supportive of the idea and so the past two years have been spent saying, 'OK, how do we achieve this?' There's a very strong community in St Blazey; that's important, and everyone is behind something happening."
The building will encompass multi-sports provisions for all ages and abilities and full disabled access.
It will also serve as a centre for the parish, providing a café with training opportunities, spaces which can be utilised by businesses and areas which will open up for use by community groups, from quilters to drama clubs.
A pop-up cinema could even feature within the hub.
Mrs Hume said: "For any community event there will be a space."
The hub is also sure to pick up premiership points for its ecological design. These include photovoltaic and solar thermal panels to meet the building's electricity and heat demands, a grass roof and toilets which will utilise harvested rainwater.
Residents may have the chance to work alongside local tradespeople to help build the centre.
Investigation of the viability of making bricks on site, using local larch to clad the building and crushed glass in the building's foundations to address potential flooding issues is already under way.
Mr Hume said: "Local trades could mentor college students or maybe the unemployed in brick-making and in doing so the students will learn a skill.
"The principle is that it's basically as sustainable as it can be. We know there are lots of sports halls in Cornwall that suffer when the figures don't add up to run them."
He added the hub was designed to be as cheap and efficient to run as possible and was a "bit of a blueprint" for what other buildings should aim to be.
Mrs Hume said: "It has been exciting but a huge amount of research has gone into this project to make sure we understand how the building can involve the community in the build and for it to be future-proof and sustainable."
Funding first needs to be found for a planning application to be submitted to Cornwall Council and supporters have begun to raise the cash required to get the scheme over its first hurdle.

ROCKY OFF HIS FEET

Rocky has been struggling with one of his legs, we are not sure if there is a bacterial infection or whether he has landed on it wrong… But we dry stabled him in case to assess him for a few days, not sure he liked it he stuck his tongue out at me in this picture!…. It took a few days but they are back in usual paddock, I sprayed his feet with special purple spray and after a few days he seemed to be ok and then they hatched a plan of escape and so were returned to their own home paddock! goats eh!

MUST BE SPRING

Lambs are up and about and feeding well two per mum it seems. Its great when they appear, the little ones can't really work all their limbs in the right order…actually Shadow is still like that and she is nearly 6!

WE ARE CLOSING :( (FROM 13th OCTOBER 2014) OPEN AS USUAL UNTIL THEN, PLEASE BOOK!

To Our Lovely wonderful friends and guests,

We have been privileged to know you all and welcomed our new and returning guests/friends back to our home for their holidays for 8 seasons now.

As you are aware we reduced our cottages from 6 to 2  a few years back due to Michelle not being as well as she should be.

A great many of you will know we have had a bit of a year or two! And it is now with great sadness we have to inform you that this year will be our last season. We will be long term letting our cottages for the foreseeable future from November 2014.

We have documented on the blog and in our hearts all the wonderful memories of our life here over the last 8 years (even produced a book!) and we will always look back and remember you all with great fondness.

We wish you well and here’s to all our futures.

Here’s to the next chapter of our lives!

Keep smiling, love life….

Michelle & Pete, Laura and Steve. xxx

Plus all the animals…

Look out for our book in the next year or so (I’ll drop you a line when its written), I aim to write a “real” book on our journey and how and why we came to be here.

TRIP TO GENEVA

We had a 24 hour quick trip to Geneva to look at a job for someone, we don't think it will go anywhere but was nice to pop over there left 4am one day and back midnight the next…It was in Les Gets, France! I prefer the film star pose of Pete than the trunks on head tho ha ha

BIT OF SUN!

Lovely sun for a lovely walk to Polkerris, It was blowing a hooley but well worth the walk, and a great bowl of soup at the pub when we got there, it must be starting to  be holiday season as we are usually the only daft ones out side with our hoods up but this day there were quite a few making the most of a bit of sun….

RAINBOWS

They always timely appear, this one appeared the day of a young friends funeral. They always appear when I think of Dad or Nan weird isn't it its like their connection to us.
To Dad a year on 2nd Feb 2013

We take warmth in the rainbows that appear before our eyes
and courage in the silver linings that glisten in the skies.
It’s these that give us strength on the days we feel so sad,
it picks us up and we remember how it would have made you mad.
if we sat about forever and never smiled or laughed,
for us to be happy is all you ever asked.
You’d move a mountain for us, you’d never ask us why,
you loved us forever until you said goodbye.

We were thrown into an unthinkable world and our worse fear,
of loosing someone that we loved so very dear.
We always save a seat, the best one at the table,
we know you’d love to chat if only you were able.

I think you would laugh at the things that are said,
I often hear the replies whizzing round in my head.
I can see you nodding simply or shaking in disbelief,
I can even hear you tell me off and saying “oh good grief”

I wonder if you still sneak a sausage roll or two
You made me laugh as you thought mum never knew!
You came over for goodies, a cake and cup of tea
When mum put you on a diet you came and saw me.

But a year has passed now and we are learning to be strong,
To be the best we can be and to carry on.
We’d love you to be here and stand side by side,
But I know that cannot happen and I remember you with pride.

The years will trundle past and I will think of you each day,
It wont be any easier no matter what some might say.
Just hope you see your family doing what is right,
Setting on their paths and the grandchildren taking flight.

I am thankful for your patience, I learned right from wrong,
I know you laid foundations which is why I must move on.
I will be that person the one that makes it count,
Each and every moment given, I will always think about.

I thank you every day for the reason to be here,
It would be even better if we could hold you near.
We know you are about we can hear you in our heads,
So to this end we love you and probably enough said.

TIME FOR A HOT CHOC!

I will travel miles for a good hot choc, found this one in a cafe in bude after a lovely river walk from the wildlife centre….This one was really nice even had choc sauce on it!

STEVE THE BIG ONE! 18 NOW

Steve was 18 in Feb and he decided he didn't want a party or anything he opted to go skiing… mmm think I was done! Kippered!… So Pete and I took him to the three valleys and skied, Val thorns, Meribel (both), Corcheval, St Martins and Les Menuires. It was a hectic week and we skied from 9 - 4.30 every day went miles and saw lots of things, we were well and truly shattered by the end of the day. Just enough energy to play poker in the evenings! It was great snow really heavy and we skied the famous Jerusalem run in the thick fog and in nice weather must admit prefer it when i can see!… So stev has something great to remember for his 18th heres a few pics….. when we got home laura had made him a cake with a skier on it and we had bacon buttes with the family and a small party tea. Just perfect. Happy Birthday Steve 18, Heres to the start of another chapter of your life, make every second count. XXX (believe it or not Steve is the one in the full face mask, can't see any part of him!

DIPPY CATS!

Does anyone have a normal cat?, I am really worried all of ours are bonkers…I am not sure whether its my fault or whether they were born that way or whether thats the only way to be to blend in with our house?

GODREVY LIGHTHOUSE

This is the views around godrey lighthouse between the storms…. There is a great little cafe there too on the beach worth a visit…anything for a cuppa… but you don't have to do what we did, we walked around the bottom of the cliffs for miles to get to it when you can just drive!… we even had to paddle some of the way and time the runs in-between the waves!…But lovely interlude of the storms in Feb

LAURA 23!
